Of OB-GYN - The Beginning

two weeks of break are over, and the infamous obs-gynae posting is on me. 'twas quite a relaxing first day, with just some short introduction to pregnancy and labour. i'm not feeling very excited about it for now, but one motivating factor would be found here. it is astounding that even in this day and age, one woman dies from childbirth or childbirth related conditions per minute. it is mind boggling to think that what we in the developed world take for granted to be a joyous occasion to be hailed with baby showers and much excitement, can be a leading preventable cause of death in poorer countries. it is a shame that our fellow human beings are denied what is rightfully theirs - things like education and contraception.

we'll see how it goes. haha.

Of Cooking and Blogs

it's the hols, and once again, i'm being seized with a cooking frenzy. bought a couple of recipe books, and have spent most of this first week choosing recipes, getting ingredients, and cooking. and yes, i've set up my own food blog. mostly stuff that i've tried, but i'll try to add in reviews and latest cravings, if any. hope i can keep this up!

yet again, i'm wasting my holidays away. whoot.

and yes, i noticed that my chatterbox was gone. that's a measure of how shiong paeds was. haha. now that tagboard is back, i have revived it. yayness.

Of The End Of Paediatrics

well, so here it is - the end of paeds. i can't quite believe that it's over, since i did enjoy most of the posting, including reading up on the varied conditions, but i -am- relieved that it's the break now, especially after the end-of-posting test. it was quite horrendous i must say. the theory test wasn't -bad- really, since we all had a rough idea what to expect. as for the clinical test, i got drawn into a discussion about one of my most feared topics in medicine - microbiology! so of course i wasn't rejoicing very much after it.

but at least i got some comfort food. a couple of us bundled into a car and drove to central where we had some ramen at marutama ramen. i chose to take some spicy chicken ramen which wasn't spicy enough really, but the stewed pork bellies were tender enough to make me happy. haha. we rushed back for the combined seminar and ended up staying for pdcp! so the movie plan was scrapped and we ended up in holland village having mexican food and complemented by margaritas. it was a great night, and i think we tried hard to make it so, well aware of the fact that there might not be a chance like this during our next posting.

i've noticed that this paediatric posting seems to be associated with food. i managed to sample russian, french-japanese, mexican, japanese, indonesian and northern indian cuisine all in the short span of eight weeks. not bad eh? not forgetting the frequent samplings of that most wondrous form of all cuisines - mcdonald's!

looking forward to the 2 weeks!!
