Notes From America (1)

i know i haven't blogged since arriving in the states, so here's some random stuff:

1) mumbler is safe and sound...and a little cold in los angeles. over the weekend, the weather was scorching hot, and it crossed our minds that we had flown a couple thousand miles only to experience singapore's weather. heh. fortunately the cool, dry wind is back.

2) david cook is the new american idol. this is, like, breaking news. after talking up david a for the entire season, simon cowell went too far and criticised david c just a bit too much during the final. so i'm glad that david c won, because i love his rendition.

3) hospital work is a-ok. team is quite friendly, although most of them are preparing to leave for different postings soon. the team has two indians, two african-americans, one japanese and me, chinese. the only angmohs are the attendings. and that's how it is in the surgical department here at cedars - quite a substantial number of indians and asians. and a point i must mention is the free food that comes with any tutorial/journal club etc. there's always some pasta and fantastic dessert, including the most wonderful brownies!! sigh. if only the food back home tasted that good. then again, that's the reason why the americans are so f-a-t. they even have special beds to withstand the enormous weight. not surprisingly, doing bariatric surgery is very lucrative. heh.

4) staying in an apartment has been quite a blast. laundry, meals, sleeping arrangements, 2 sets of house keys shared between four people, gossip and jokes all make for lots of laughs that keep us up when we're supposed to be studying or sleeping.

that's all for now. gotta go cuz there's a queue for the comp.
